Thieves make off with Edinburgh cocktail bar's giant nutcracker Christmas decoration

An Edinburgh cocktail bar has said thieves have ‘stolen the spirit of Christmas’ after an eight foot tall decoration was taken from the venue on Monday.

Staff at Copper Blossom on George Street said their giant Christmas nutcracker statue was taken from outside the bar at around 10pm on Monday Novembe 24. They added the crime has been recorded on CCTV and footage has been shared with the police.

The Copper Blossom team is now calling for the festive statue named ‘Nolan’ to be returned and reunited with his fellow nutcracker soldier ‘Nelson’, which together form part of the venue’s seasonal display. Management said if the stolen property is returned in one piece ‘no further action will be taken’.

Paul Paxton, general manager at Copper Blossom on Edinburgh’s George Street, said: “We put a lot of time, effort and expense into our Christmas decorations at Copper Blossom to create a spectacular winter wonderland for all our guests. Our Christmas nutcracker statues take pride of place as part of our seasonal celebrations, so not only has someone stolen one of our favourite decorations, but they’ve also stolen the spirit of Christmas, too!

“We’re now calling on the culprit to return our Christmas nutcracker ‘Nolan’ and restore our special touch of festive magic. If Nolan is returned in one piece, then no further action will be taken, but the culprit is definitely on Santa's naughty list.”

Copper Blossom welcomes hundreds of customers to its George Street home over the festive season, offering a special menu of cocktails, sharing platters and Sunday roasts. Every Christmas, Copper Blossom’s festive displays draw crowds of people looking to capture the perfect photos with family and friends to share on Instagram and TikTok.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1pm on Tuesday, 25 November, 2025, we received a report of a theft from a premises on George Street, Edinburgh. Enquiries are at an early stage.”
