Six Nations: How to get to Murrayfield for Scotland v England - best routes to avoid congestion
Fans have been urged to use public transport where possible to avoid match day chaos.
Scotland started their 2026 Six Nations campaign with a desperate defeat against Italy last week.
However, the team have had no time to lick their wounds with England coming to Edinburgh on Saturday for the Calcutta Cup clash at Murrayfield Stadium.
With kick-off at 4.40pm, knowing the best routes to get to the stadium is key to making sure you arrive in plenty of time and enjoy a stress-free afternoon.
This year, fans should be aware of a significant road closure on Gorgie Road, which links the west of the capital with the city centre.
Scottish Water is upgrading the waste water network and the road is fully closed between Robb's Loan and Hutchison Crossway.
There are diversions in place, but the closure is likely to mean more congestion on other routes in the area.

Match day road closures
A number of other match-day road closures and restrictions have been announced.
Roseburn Street, including the junction with Russell Road will be closed before and after the match.
After the match the A8 will be closed from Ellersly Road to Haymarket, including Corstorphine Road, Roseburn Terrace, West Coates and Haymarket Terrace.
The West Approach Road will also be closed after the match.
A number of bus diversions will also be in place following the match.
You can find a full list of road closures and bus diversions here.
Best routes for getting to Murrayfield
Getting parked on match day is a headache, and fans are encouraged to use public transport where possible.
Edinburgh has seven park and rides operating in and around the city, and they are a great way to avoid congestion.
They are dotted all around the city and are served by various tram and bus options that will get you into the centre of town.
The X12 to Murrayfield Road will depart every 15 minutes from Ingliston Park and Ride from 1.40pm until just before 4pm on Saturday, with services running after the match until 8.35pm.
There are also trams that will get you straight from the park and ride to the stadium.
Meanwhile, the service 25 to Gorgie Road will be running from Hermiston Park and Ride.
If you’re coming from the west via the M8 or from the south of the city, car rental company SIXT suggests using the Edinburgh City Bypass and parking at Ingliston or Hermiston Park and Ride.
Buses from the Sheriffhall and Wallyford park and rides will also get you into the city centre.
ScotRail ‘ready to help’ fans with longer trains

Travelling to Edinburgh by train is also a great option and ScotRail has announced it will operate longer trains on key routes in and out of the capital throughout the day.
Haymarket is the nearest station to Murrayfield, just a short walk or tram ride from the stadium.
After the match, ScotRail said fans travelling by train should make their way to Haymarket station, where a designated holding area will be in place on Haymarket Terrace to manage crowds.
Fans will then be directed to the appropriate queue for their train home.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “It’s always a special atmosphere when the Scotland team run out at Murrayfield, and with a sell-out crowd expected for the Calcutta Cup it promises to be another fantastic occasion.
“We’re operating longer trains on key routes to help supporters travel to Edinburgh and get home as smoothly as possible after the final whistle.
“Taking the train is the easiest way to enjoy the day – it avoids traffic, gets you close to the stadium, and lets fans focus on soaking up the matchday atmosphere and cheering on Scotland.”
