The UK government has revealed the list of neighbourhoods in Scotland which are set to receive up to £20 million each in investment over the next decade to restore “pride in place” among communities.
The funding is part a flagship programme by Labour ministers aimed at revitalising town centres and supporting the most deprived communities.
In September, it confirmed that up to £280 million will be shared among 14 communities in Scotland, spanning 12 local authority areas.
At the time, Scottish Secretary Douglas Alexander said the investment would help deliver a “decade of national renewal” for Scotland.
The communities selected were identified following an “evidence-led” process involving local authorities, politicians and community organisations to decide which neighbourhoods are most in need of extra funding.
Funding will begin in April 2026 and boards of community representatives will be set up to decide what the investment will be spent on.
The government said investment projects could include revitalising high streets, preserving local heritage, boosting transport links or projects linked to housing, education, health or economic productivity.
Mr Alexander said: “Over decades of decline, people have watched as their neighbourhoods have lost services and support, so now we are putting the power into the hands of local people who can decide how the money is spent.
“We're investing directly in Scottish communities to build stronger, thriving neighbourhoods.”
Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Steve Reed, said: “People across Scotland have been shut out from their own futures and felt powerless to make the changes they want to see in their communities.
“Pride in Place is fixing that and putting power back where it belongs - in the hands of the people who have the knowledge, ambition and vision to make a real difference.”
An additional £12 million in funding has been made available through a separate Pride in Place Impact Fund, with eight councils awarded £1.5 million to deliver rapid improvements to their local area over two years. These are Glasgow, West Dunbartonshire, North Ayrshire, Dundee, North Lanarkshire, Inverclyde, East Ayrshire and Falkirk.
