Since the postition of President of the United States of America was established in 1789 just 45 men have held the title.
Of those - perhaps surprisingly - only four have made an official visit to Scotland during their presidency.
But many more have visited in a personal capacity, often due to their family links to the country - and even more often due to the quality of golf course Scotland offers.
Ahead of an official state visit later this year, President Trump will be arriving in Scotland on Friday (July 25) for five days to visit both his golf courses - as well as meeting with both Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and First Minister John Swinney.
Here are all the Presidents to have visited Scotland before him - and what they were doing here.
13. George W. Bush (President from 2001-2009)
George W. Bush arrived in Scotland in 2005, when he attended the G8 summit at Gleneagles in 2005. During the visit the President collided with a Scottish police officer while cycling around the hotel grounds. He sustained scrapes and bruises, but that didn't stop him from managing to play a few holes of golf between meetings. | AFP via Getty Images
14. Barack Obama (President from 2009-2017)
Barack Obama first visited Scotland in 2017 when he spoke at a charity event at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre organised by the Hunter Foundation, before playing golf at St Andrews (pictured). He returned in 2021 to speak at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow. | Getty Images

Donald Trump's mother came from Scotland and the President has made much of his Scottish roots. He has made a number of trips to the country, most recently in 2023, to visit his golf courses at Turnberry and at the Menie estate, in Aberdeenshire. | AFP via Getty Images
