Ruth Davidson, the former Scottish Conservative leader, was paid £7,500 for her work as an election night pundit, it has emerged.

The earnings were revealed in the Edinburgh Central MSP's register of interests at the Scottish Parliament.

Ms Davidson resigned as leader of the party last August citing personal reasons as well as clashes with Boris Johnson. She appeared in the ITV studios on election night to provide political analysis on December 12.

Her register of interest states: “On 24 January 2020 I was paid a £7,500 fee by ITV (of 200 Grays Inn Rd, Holborn, London WC1X 8XZ) for participating in the network’s election night coverage.”

Ms Davidson, who has been succeeded by Jackson Carlaw as Tory leader in Scotland, is to step down as an MSP at next year's Holyrood election.

She has already faced widespread criticism when she announced to become a PR consultant during her remaining time as an MSP. The row resulted in her ditching the planned role.
