This week was a big one for British politics, as Andy Burnham became the country’s new Prime Minister and appointed his new Cabinet hours after making his first speech outside Number 10.
He has plenty of challenges ahead, led by uniting both his party and the country in support for his vision of change.
But it’s more than likely that rival party leaders will shortly start to claim that the new PM has no mandate to hold power and call for a General Election.
Meanwhile, it only took a few hours for a show of dissent on social media from former Labour Cabinet Minister Darren Jones.
That all means that it’s very much in the balance as to how long his premiership will last for. Remember Liz Truss and the lettuce?
Here are the 10 most likely candidates to succeed him according to the bookies.

5. Ed Miliband - 15/2
Ed Miliband unexpectedly lost the 2015 General Election to David Cameron by 10 seats, effectively beginning the process of Brexit. It would be one of the more remarkable political comebacks if he was able to belatedly become Prime Minister, having recently been appointed Foreign Minister by Andy Burnham. 6. Rupert Lowe - 17/2
Former Reform MP Rupert Lowe has now started his own political party - Restore Britain. A quickly growing membership means that the bookies reckon he has a 17/2 chance of getting the keys to 10 Downing Street. | Getty Images

7. Alistair Carns - 9/1
Aberdeen-born politician Alistair Carns has only been a Labour MP since 2024, having previously been an officer in the Royal Marines. He missed out on a place in Andy Burnham's Cabinet but is well thought of and priced at 9/1 to be the next Prime Minister. | AFP via Getty Images

8. Angela Rayner - 9/1
Angela Rayner, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, lost her place in cabinet after she breached the ministerial code by underpaying stamp duty on a property in Hove. She's already made a comeback, being appointed Housing Minister in Andy Burnham's new Cabinet, and has odds of 9/1 to go all the way to the top job and become the next Prime Minister. | Getty Images
