Wrong number

The proposal that smartphones be introduced as a teaching tool in schools and colleges is wrongheaded (Letters, 1 January).

It will only make those pupils and students who don’t have one feel excluded, and envious. You also don’t learn how to talk to people and treat them as equals by being glued to a smartphone all day.
