Will haggis help this Scottish-Brazilian love story have a happy ending?
Jimmy Main has been selling up to 10,000 ‘haggisxinhas’ a day

‘Haggisxinha’ may sound like the nickname of a new Brazil football star with a penchant for Robert Burns’ “Great Chieftain o’ the Puddin-race”.
However, it’s actually a Scottish-Brazilian culinary fusion of haggis and the snack coxinhas, invented by retired Scottish engineer Jimmy Main, 75, and his Brazilian wife. They met on holiday in Chile, kept in touch and later started a relationship. When she visited Scotland in 2020, she found herself stuck here because of Covid and they decided to get married.
Main initially set up a small business in his garage but has now expanded, with demand rising to up to 10,000 haggisxinhas a day. As the World Cup looms, he hopes sales will increase further.
There’s more riding on it than just the success of his business. His wife has been refused a visa to stay in the UK apparently because he is retired. He hopes the extra income will be enough to convince the government to allow her to stay.
Will it be “Ae fond kiss, and then we sever; Ae fareweel, alas, forever!”? Or will haggisxinhas save the day?
