Why Scotland has already won a victory as they prepare to take on England's Red Roses at Murrayfield
A record crowd of 30,000 are expected for today’s Scotland-England game at Murrayfield

When England’s all-conquering women’s rugby team last played Scotland, during the World Cup in September, it was a comfortable 40-8 win for the Red Roses, who went on to win the competition. They’re also ranked the number one team in the world by some distance.
So when the Scots take to the Murrayfield pitch today, they will be facing a considerable challenge. However, that challenge will be boosted by the support of a record crowd, with more than 30,000 expected, making it the highest attended women’s sporting event in Scotland since the 2019 Solheim Cup at Gleneagles attracted 90,000 golf fans – over three days.

The size of the crowd shows just how far the game has come in recent years, amid a surge of interest in women’s sport. Whatever the actual result today, that represents a victory, given the children who will be inspired and the extraordinary benefits of an active lifestyle.
But Scotland should not be counted out. Underdogs can win, champions sometimes stumble. And with the Murrayfield roar at their backs, anything can happen. Come on Scotland!
