How Andy Burnham inexplicably snubbed the SNP on their one area of expertise

Some might say social care in England is nothing to do with the SNP, but here’s why they’re wrong

The SNP are in a state of High Dudgeon. Not the state they want to be in, of course, but one of the many stops on the route towards the Promised Land of independence and a place they go quite often.

So, why are they miffed? Well, Andy Burnham has been really quite rude. He asked the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives for talks about reforming social care, but the nationalists, Reform UK, the south-of-the-Border Greens and Count Binface were all snubbed.

On this occasion, we actually find ourselves agreeing with the SNP. Some might say social care in England is nothing to do with them, but John Swinney and co have much to contribute, particularly as Burnham seems keen to accelerate plans for a National Care Service in England.

In the spirit of cross-party co-operation, we feel sure the SNP would be happy to explain how they managed to spend tens of millions of pounds on a Scottish National Care Service that never happened. If the nationalists have one area of expertise, it’s surely making expensive mistakes – and some parties might be able to learn from them.
