Delta extends Edinburgh to New York flights with new winter schedule

The airline is set to run three flights a week to the Big Apple in January and February next year.

A major American airline has announced new direct winter flights from Edinburgh to New York City starting next year.

Edinburgh Airport confirmed Delta Air Lines will offer flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in January and February for the first time from 2027.

The US carrier currently runs daily flights to the airport from March to the end of October, and four flights a week in November and December. There were previously no Delta flights connecting Edinburgh and JFK in the first two months of the year.

However, the airport has confirmed services will now run all year round with the addition of three flights a week in January and February from next year.

Delta is the second airline to run a year-round route to the Big Apple, with United Airlines operating flights 12 months of the year to New York Newark - the other airport serving New York City.

The airline also operates summer services to Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, and Boston.

Stephanie Wear, Chief Commercial Officer at Edinburgh Airport said: “Extending this service to year-round is fantastic news for passengers, ensuring continued connectivity to New York and onward to North America through Delta’s hub network.

“Edinburgh Airport already offers a fantastic range of services to the United States, and we are delighted that Delta shares our confidence in the strength of our market and in our role as a key driver of economic growth.

“We look forward to working with our colleagues at Delta to making this extension a success and to exploring opportunities for further improvements in the future.”

American Airlines also expanded its Scottish network this year, with daily New York JFK flights running from Edinburgh between March and October and an extension of its route to Philadelphia.

Low-cost airline JetBlue launched daily summer flights to JFK in 2024.

This summer will also see Glasgow Airport resume a New York route after a seven-year gap, with United restoring summer flights to Newark in May.
