M8 closures: M8 hit by 10 days of overnight closures for planned bridge works

Major works to refurbish a bridge between Bathgate and Blackburn are bringing more overnight closures.

A section of the M8 in West Lothian is set to shut overnight for several days in February and March.

Road maintenance firm BEAR Scotland announced the M8 westbound carriageway between junctions 3A and four, near Blackburn, is planned on the nights of February 18 and from March 14 to 22.

The work is part of the ongoing work to refurbish the bridge carrying the B792 road over the motorway between Bathgate and Blackburn, which began last year.

The overnight closures will run from 8pm until 6am.

BEAR Scotland said a five minute diversion via the A779, A7066, and the A801 will be signposted during the affected times.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “This bridge over the M8 is being refurbished to ensure it can continue to provide safe and reliable service for decades to come.

“Works are now required below the bridge, therefore overnight carriageway closures are necessary for the safety of workers and road users.

“We thank road users in advance for their patience and understanding while our teams carry out these essential works.”
