Hutchesons' Grammar Junior School Campus is up for sale. The B-listed building extends to around 58,954 sq ft, sitting on a 1.91 acre site near Pollokshaws Road. Described as a “prime conversion and development opportunity” by estate agents Savills, the four-story building was designed by Thomas Sandilands Architects and constructed in 1912.
The property on the market includes the main red sandstone building, a two-storey annex gymnasium and canteen, the former Janitor's House three-bedroom house and portable structure used for after-school accommodation.
Nicola Lunn, Savills development director, said, “This is a standout opportunity to reimagine a much‑loved southside building. Its history, scale and location give it enormous potential, and we’re excited to see how future owners will bring new life and purpose to this important site. Its prime southside setting only strengthens that potential, underlining the campus as one of the most significant opportunities to come to the market in recent years.”
The sale is part of Hutchesons’ Grammar School’s plans to bring its Primary and Secondary Schools together on a single site at its Beaton Road campus. Parents received a letter informing them that the building was being placed on the market as the next stage of that project.
Founded in 1641, Hutchesons' Grammar School is the 19th oldest school in Scotland. In 1876, the school became fee-paying and established a separate school for girls, which moved to its Kingarth Street site in 1912. The boys' school moved to the Beaton Road campus in 1960. The two schools merged to form a single co-educational institution at the Beaton Road site for secondary pupils in 1976. Following the merger, the school became fully independent from direct government grants.
