Man appears in Edinburgh court charged with attempted murder after alleged stabbing in Calder
A 23-year-old man has appeared in court on petition charged with attempted murder after an alleged stabbing incident in Edinburgh which left two injured.
Mustafa Kokoneh, who is understood to be a Chad national who has lived in Edinburgh since 2023, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, March 4, where he faced eight charges - including two counts of attempted murder.
He faced one charge of ‘assault to danger of life and attempted murder’ and another of ‘assault to severe injury, permanent impairment, danger to life and attempted murder’.
He faced two further counts of ‘assault to danger of life’, as well as a charge of breach of the peace. The remaining three charges related to possession of a bladed article, carrying offensive weapons and vandalism.
The 23-year-old made no plea and the case was committed for further examination.

He was remanded in custody and will appear back at court within the next eight days.
The court appearance comes two days after the Calder area of Edinburgh was locked down by police following reports of a man allegedly walking the streets carrying two large knives.
Armed police, paramedics and fire crews swooped on a tower block in Calder Gardens at around 8.30am, with members of the public having been urged to avoid the area.
