Proposed cycle route by Ibrox Stadium to link Govan-Partick Bridge and Pollok Country Park
Plans for a new walking, wheeling and cycling route linking the Govan-Partick Bridge with Pollok Country Park.
A public consultation has begun on a proposed 2.7km cycling route, the first element of the Connecting Greater Govan active travel project, which Glasgow City Council will see improved streets and enhanced active travel connectivity.
The proposed first route would deliver a continuous active travel connection from Water Row, just south of the bridge, through Govan Road onto Orkney Street, Broomloan Road, Edmiston Drive and along Dumbreck Road to its junction with Mosspark Boulevard - with onward links to Pollok Country Park via existing and in‑construction infrastructure.
The council say: “Signalised pedestrian crossings and a new layout at the busy Edmiston Drive roundabout will also make everyday journeys easier and safer for people moving through the area.
“Building on the popularity of the Govan-Partick Bridge and the enduring appeal of Pollok Country Park, the project will deliver high‑quality walking, wheeling and cycling infrastructure alongside wider public‑realm upgrades.
“Together, these improvements aim to create a safe active travel link between communities in Govan, the Southside and West End while strengthening connections to local amenities, greenspace and public transport in the Govan area.
As well as improved cycling infrastructure, the route will also deliver a safer and more attractive environment for pedestrians, with the inclusion of dropped kerbs, tactile paving, new seating, landscaping and improved drainage.”
The Connecting Greater Govan project includes four priority active‑travel routes totalling 11km.
- Route 1 - Govan-Partick Bridge towards Pollok Country Park
- Route 2 - Peninver, Burghead, Govan Road, Summertown Road
- Route 3 - Shieldhall Road, Edmiston Drive
- Route 4 - Moss Road, Skipness Road and Craigton Road South/ Jura Street

Cllr Angus Millar, City Convener for Transport and Climate welcomed the launch of the consultation, which runs until the end of next month, saying: "Since opening in Autumn 2024, the Govan-Partick Bridge has transformed how people travel between the south and west of the city, quickly becoming one of our most well‑used active travel routes. With more than 1.77 million bridge crossings recorded so far, it clearly shows the appetite for high‑quality routes for walking, wheeling and cycling in the city.
"The first proposed route of the Connecting Greater Govan project will deliver improved streets and enhanced connectivity for people in the Govan area, as well as adding to our safe active travel infrastructure for people to travel to more parts of the city. This consultation, including the online survey and in-person drop-in events, is an important opportunity to get involved and shape this stage of the proposals."
The consultation closes on Monday 30 March 2026.
Glasgow City Council say construction of the four Connecting Greater Govan routes will depend on future funding.
Route 1 would be built in two phases, starting with a 1.7km section linking the south side of the bridge to the Broomloan Road/Paisley Road West junction.
Between September 2024 and January 2026, there were 1,770,736 crossings over the Govan-Partick Bridge. 1,409,584 of these crossings were made by pedestrians, and 361,152 were made by cycle.
