The glamorous new Glasgow branch of Anthropologie that's opened in time for Christmas

This is the latest opening in the city centre

Hot on the heels of its new branch of Uniqlo, Glasgow now has its own Anthropologie boutique.

This destination from the US brand, which was founded in 1992, has opened on the first floor of the reinvigorated Princes Square, with a particularly sparkly bauble-laden window to suit the time of year.

This addition comes 14 years after their first Scottish store opening on Edinburgh’s George Street.

“Edinburgh has been open for a while, and opening a store during Covid and that time was paused for a bit. We’re at a place where we want to start expanding again, and one of the areas we’re looking at is the entire North West of the UK,” says Matt Hilgeman, the London-based managing director of Anthropologie International. “We can see from customer data that we’ve got customers in Scotland, so it seemed like a natural location”.

The new store is a bit smaller than Edinburgh, which is spread across two floors. However, it has the benefit of shelter from the elements.

“We’ve been looking in Glasgow for a while before Princes Square came up,” says Hilgeman. “It’s perfect as we’re in Scotland with lots of rain, and this is a covered mall, and it’s also got a good co-hort of tenants - brands that are our peers - so it felt like the right destination for us to be in”.

Compared to their first Scottish store, their Princes Square shop has less of a focus on home, and more on fashion - “first and foremost, we want to be a leading fashion destination”, says Hilgeman - and they’ve tweaked their ranges to suit the trend-led Glasgow customer.

“The assortments are really tailored for the customers in that area, so they take the data that we’re seeing and base it on what we think the customers want,” says Hilgeman. “There’s the creativity and fashion relevance of Glasgow, so I think the assortment does tend to be a bit younger and edgier”.

In the new shop, they have their own clothing lines, including pieces from Pilcro and Lyre Bird.

This season, expect party wear, including a black satin mini dress that’s embroidered with beaded lipstick bullets, beaded jeans, a maxi wine-coloured halterneck, or bag charms in the form of espresso martinis, Nessies or thistles. That’s as well as cosy layers, like sweatshirts with Apres Ski slogans, and huge scarves the size of blankets.

However, there are also various labels from the likes of Maeve; Lee, Pistola and Rag & Bone denim, Damson Madder and Scottish brand TBCo.

Near the tills, you’ll find their beauty advent calendar, and products from brands including L’Occitane, as well as stocking filler wrinkle patches, nail files and face masks.

As far as homeware and gifting goes, there are Aery candles, glassware that’s emblazoned with Christmas trees and gingerbread man motifs, and their own brand of scented candles in every variety, housed in frosted glass and ceramic candy-striped pots.

The tree is up in the store, and they’re going all in with the Christmas theme.

As Hilgeman says; “It’s a great time for people to discover the brand, if they don’t know it, and for those who know the brand to see it in all its glory”.
