Outlander star Sam Heughan bids farewell to hit show with ‘very personal’ Jamie Fraser whisky
The actor is set to release a special edition of his Sassenach whisky, and it’s dedicated to his character on the TV programme.
Outlander fans only have a few days left to wait before the final season of the hit TV show is available to watch. The programme, which started in 2014, stars Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe as Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall Fraser. After over a decade, season eight is the final one and will air in the UK on 7 March.
Both Ms Balfe and Mr Heughan have taken to social media to express their thanks and gratitude to the show, which is based on the books by Diana Gabaldon.
Mr Heughan has also teased at a special launch to commemorate the end of Outlander, details of which have now been revealed.
The actor, who has gone on to launch a successful drinks business and, last year, bought and relaunched the Galloway distillery, announced via the Sassenach newsletter that a new edition of the Sassenach whisky will be released to celebrate Outlander and his character.
In the newsletter, he wrote: “Upon opening the first chapter and reading his first line, Jamie Fraser has taken me on an epic journey and guided me on my own.
“I've spent a good part of my life walking in Jamie's footsteps (and thick leather boots). For more than a decade, I felt the passionate strength for those he loves, enjoyed his humour in dark places, and have been in awe of his devotion and stubborn courage.
“I felt at my core the man of honour, his unwavering loyalty, which can make someone braver and more vulnerable at the same time. We grew up together, year after year, on-screen and off.
“In the quiet, with only Jamie for company, I felt the weight of responsibility and the countless challenges facing him. At times I would forget where he ended and I began. We celebrated together through the victories, reunions and the gift of life given or painfully taken away.
“The Sassenach: Jamie Fraser Collection is a limited release to commemorate this final chapter and the friendship we built along the way, an opportunity to share a dram with Jamie Fraser.
“Inside the box, you'll also find something very personal to me: a letter I have written to Jamie, thanking him for the company he gave me and the privilege to call him a friend for all these years.
“This release is a celebration of our legacy and a reminder that while this chapter is ending, Jamie will always be by our side. Thank you for joining us both on this journey. Slainte”
Priced at £139.99, the special release of The Sassenach Jamie Fraser Collection is available to pre-order now from the Galloway Distillery website (for UK-based fans) and the Sassenach Spirits website for USA-based fans.
The Sassenach was first launched in America and went on sale in the UK in December 2020. The whisky is a nod to the nickname Sam’s character Jamie has given his on-screen love interest Claire on the show and realises a dream the Scots actor has had for a long time. It has won multiple awards over the last six years.
