I tried sellout M&S giant biscuit Easter egg & new pistachio creation - my verdict
After the sellout pistachio egg last year, Rosalind Erskine tries two in-demand Easter eggs from M&S to see if they’re worth the hype
One of the big food trends for 2025 was pistachios, specifically in what became known as Dubai chocolate. This is chocolate with a pistachio cream and knafeh (shredded filo pastry) filling and has since spawned nut-filled creations from Lindt to Lidl and in everything from ice cream to matcha drinks.
Ahead of Easter 2025, Marks and Spencer launched a series of seasonal pistachio chocolates including rolled eggs and a Collection extra thick pistachio and milk chocolate egg, which went viral and was a sellout success.
This year the brand has increased its pistachio offering, as the popularity of Dubai chocolate hasn’t died down. As well as the rolled eggs and Collection extra thick pistachio and milk chocolate egg (which at the time of writing was still available in stores), they’ve introduced a pistachio filled shell egg (along with a salted caramel filled shell egg) and a Big Daddy pistachio half loaded egg.

I decided to try the new filled egg to see how it compared to last year’s sellout one, and I also picked up another viral creation from last year - the M&S giant Outrageously Chocolatey custard cream biscuity egg.
Both eggs weren’t easy to find as they’d sold out or weren’t available in my local M&S but I did find them eventually which was a better start than my weeks long search for the Collection extra thick egg last year.
First off the packaging on the giant custard cream biscuit egg is eye-catching with its bright yellow box while the pistachio one is more subdued but probably classier with gold lettering.
On opening the boxes, both are encased in plastic and the biscuit egg looks so much like a huge custard cream that it’s strange to feel how light it is when lifting it out of the packaging.
This hollow milk chocolate shell is studded with biscuit pieces with a white chocolate and custard truffle underneath. It’s smooth, creamy and tastes just like the cream part of a custard cream, and also a Kinder egg which I’ve not had in about 30 years. A lovely, if very sweet, nostalgic egg which looks the part.
The pistachio filled egg has a shiny, flecked shell and opens in half to reveal the hollow inside, which is studded with roasted pistachio pieces. It’s made with 40% Belgian chocolate and in between this is the generous layer of pistachio cream. It’s very nutty, rich and sweet. An indulgent Easter treat.
The giant biscuit egg will appeal to kids big and small while the filled pistachio is another enjoyable take on the ever-popular trend. They’re both very sweet and the pistachio egg is quite rich meaning a little goes a long way - and both are a welcome afternoon addition to a cup of tea.
The Collection Pistachio Filled Shell Milk Chocolate Egg is priced at £18 and the Outrageously Chocolatey Custard Cream Biscuity Egg is priced at £12. Both are in M&S stores now.
