Retro Reborn: Six by Nico restaurants announce latest tasting menu

Angel Delight, instant mash, a Primula cheese swirl, Spam or some chunks of tinned pineapple for some added sophistication, the 1970's retro food trends can only be described as the decade that good food forgot, but there are dishes that are still held in great affection today.
But now it's time to chill the Babycham because 'The 1970's' are back on the menu with the latest concept at Six by Nico restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Chef Nico Simeone will celebrate some of the highs and lows of the pre-Instagram, pre-clean eating era that will see prawn cocktail, chicken kievs and trifle being served up as Six by Nico cooks retro 70’s food with an upmarket twist.

The new six course tasting menu includes Spam & Mash: potato espuma, smoked ham hough and pickled mustard seed; prawn cocktail: tiger prawn, baby gem ketchup, tomato and shellfish marie rose; chicken kiev: black garlic emulsion, pea pesto and rainbow radish; salmon tikka marsala: onion bhaji, caramelised cauliflower and lime gel; Duck A L’Orange: confit duck, aromatic carrot and orange puree.
And it wouldn’t be the 1970’s with a classic British pudding. Retro diners will love the sixth dish on the menu, which offers a unique twist on the dessert - a trifle of summer berries served with saffron, almond sponge and whipped creme friache.
