South Queensferry antiques and curios store that featured on BBC show closes after over two decades

A South Queensferry antiques store, which repeatedly featured on a hit BBC One show and has welcomed movie stars through its doors, has closed for good.

Sea Kist, which has occupied its spot on the town’s High Street for the past 25 years, has made a number of appearances on the Antiques Road Trip programme.

The antiques emporium has even attracted the attention of Hollywood, with movie star Brooke Shields once popping in when she was filming nearby.

But now retiring owner Jenni Meldrum has taken the difficult decision to close the High Street premises and put its eclectic collection of antiques and curios up for auction.

She said: “I’ve decided to retire. I’ve managed to quickly sell the shop premises.

“I’m not sure what kind of business will go into the unit, but wish the new occupants every success.

“I also want to thank all my brilliant customers who supported the shop over 25 years.”

The store specialised in maritime-themed items - alongside vintage jewellery, books, china, and collectibles. It attracted customers from across Scotland and beyond.

Jenni had to take a break from running the business a few years ago when she had a cycling accident.

“I re-opened the shop after the accident,” she added.

“But my hours were a bit erratic and not regular. I eventually came to a decision to wind things up and retire. In any other job I would have been retired by now.”

The contents of the shop will now go under the hammer at the Three Bridges Auction House in Rosyth.

The items are expected to be sold at auction in May.

Sea Kist made a number of appearances on the Antiques Road Trip show – welcoming presenters and celebrities such as Anita Manning, David Harper and Kaye Adams.

In September 2020, actress Brooke Shields popped in for a visit whilst filming a romantic comedy for Netflix at nearby Dalmeny House.

Jenni said: “Brooke’s a lovely lady with a great eye for antiques. She had a good look around the shop while we chatted. It was fantastic to see her in South Queensferry.”
