Scottish legal heavyweight paying firm-wide staff bonus as profits hit £19.2m

“Our vision continues to be about empowering our people to consistently deliver a positive, user-friendly client experience” – Chris Harte, chief executive

Scottish legal firm Morton Fraser MacRoberts (MFMac) has paid a firm-wide bonus equivalent to 6 per cent of salary after reporting strong revenue and profit growth.

The firm’s latest turnover figure of £49 million means it delivered in 11 months almost as much as it had in the 12 months previously, with its annualised revenue performance up by 9 per cent. MFMac shortened its annual accounting period by one month this year.

The firm said profitability had remained strong, with net profits hitting £19.2m in the 11 months to April - a 10 per cent increase when accounting for the difference in reporting periods. A firm-wide bonus award equivalent to 6 per cent of salary was paid to all staff.

Annual profits have now grown by 30 per cent since the launch of MFMac in late 2023 following the merger between Morton Fraser and MacRoberts. The firm employs more than 480 people across its offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, including 72 partners.

Chief executive Chris Harte said: “Our vision continues to be about empowering our people to consistently deliver a positive, user-friendly client experience and these financial results provide tangible evidence of the progress we are making.”

In support of its growth strategy, MFMac has also made a number of senior appointments over the last year including six new partner appointments, a new chief people officer, who joined from Deloitte, and a new risk and compliance director from A&O Shearman.

Harte added: “At a time of rapid technological change, we believe that it’s more important than ever to put the client experience at the heart of how we design and deliver our services. We are investing significant time and resources on a structured programme of client-listening and this is already providing us with fresh insights into how we can continue to deliver real value to our clients.”

The firm acts for clients across the private, public and third sectors including the UK and Scottish governments, Breedon Group, Cala Homes, Diageo, HSBC, the Ministry of Defence, NHS Scotland, Schuh, Skyscanner and SSE.
