Scotsman Insider launches Mid Market 200 ranking
Our five profiled companies are diverse, internationally connected and show the path to future economic growth

Scotland’s mid-market is defined by range as much as scale.
The five companies profiled in this edition illustrate how varied – and internationally connected – this tier has become.
From subsea hydraulics and semiconductor design to fashion e-commerce, commercial vehicle fleets and marine logistics, the mid-market is not a single sector story.
It is a cross-section of the modern Scottish economy.
They operate in defensible niches, invest in technical capability and compete well beyond Scotland’s borders.
Several are headquartered in the country but generate significant revenue overseas.
Others anchor regional employment while servicing national and international clients.
In each case, scale has been achieved without losing operational control.
Aberdeen-headquartered Hydrasun reflects the continued evolution of the North Sea supply chain, building global fluid transfer and control expertise that now supports wider industrial and energy transition markets.
Glasgow-based FTDI Chip demonstrates the depth of Scotland’s semiconductor heritage, designing silicon platforms that sit inside products used around the world.
On the west coast, Inverlussa Marine Services shows how specialist marine capability can grow from island roots into a core part of the aquaculture supply chain.
The consumer and asset-heavy ends of the spectrum are equally represented.
Oh Polly has leveraged social-first marketing and global supply chains to build a digitally native fashion brand with international reach.
MV Commercial, meanwhile, has expanded from its Airdrie base into a UK-wide vehicle and asset finance operation, underlining the importance of logistics and capital equipment to the wider economy.
They are businesses that sit below the listed giants but above the start-up stage, large enough to influence supply chains and employment patterns, yet agile enough to adapt.
As Scotland navigates energy transition, digital transformation and changing trade dynamics, it is this cohort that will determine how resilient – and competitive – the economy proves to be.

Inverlussa Marine Services
Based on the Isle of Mull, Inverlussa Marine Services is one of Scotland’s leading shipping companies, providing support to the aquaculture industry.
The firm runs a modern fleet, boasting “exceptional flexibility”, low-emissions technology and efficient operating costs. Its first vessel, Kilean, in the late 1990s, was purpose built to service the company’s mussel farm on Loch Spelve, Mull.
Inverlussa has been voted Best Mussel Producer in Scotland on numerous occasions at the trade’s annual competition, hosted by the Association of Scottish Shellfish Growers.
Methodology
The Insider Scotland Mid-Market 200 was obtained by measuring the performance of companies by a combination of their turnover and profitability from their latest accounts filed at Companies House. To be included companies should be based in Scotland with a turnover of between £15m and £80m. We excluded companies with overseas parent companies and those with UK-based parents with turnover significantly larger than the subsidiary. (There needs to be 75% or more of group turnover going through the local company).
