Morrisons '˜bake officer' rises to the challenge

Supermarket giant Morrisons has appointed what it says is the UK's first dedicated 'bake officer' in anticipation of TV series The Great British Bake Off returning to screens next week.

Keen baker Anastasia Duncanson received her job offer by cake, and she is in charge of monitoring buying trends prompted by the show in 492 of the retailer’s stores.

She has been ensuring it has the most popular ingredients in store, with the chain noting that last year it saw an “unprecedented spike” in sales of glace cherries and almond extract, up 163 per cent and 110 per cent respectively. It predicts trends this autumn such as metallic frosting.
