MHA unveils new team as it grows in Scotland
The firm, which has a team of 93 in Scotland, said it was continuing to recruit across its Edinburgh and Aberdeen offices
MHA, the accountancy and business advisory firm with some 2,300 staff globally, has unveiled a series of senior appointments and partner promotions as it continues to grow its Scotland team.

In Edinburgh, the firm has appointed Stephen Thom as corporate tax partner and Joshua Williams as personal client tax director, alongside the promotion of Alan Downie and Allan Smith to partner roles.
Euan Fernie, partner at MHA’s Edinburgh office, said: “Stephen and Joshua strengthen our senior tax capability in Edinburgh, while the promotions of Alan and Allan to partner roles rightly recognise the depth of experience and leadership already within the firm.
“Together, these appointments reflect both sustained growth in Scotland and a clear commitment to investing in people as we continue to expand our team across all levels.”
MHA is the UK member firm of Baker Tilly International - the world’s eighth largest network of independently owned and managed accountancy and business advisory firms. In Scotland, MHA operates from offices in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, alongside a wider presence across England, Wales, Ireland, south east Europe and the Cayman Islands.
The firm, which has a team of 93 in Scotland, said it was continuing to recruit across its Edinburgh and Aberdeen offices for trainee, qualified and senior roles.
Thom’s appointment follows a period running his own tax consultancy. He began his career in London with BDO before returning to Scotland to work within a multinational financial services business. He later returned to practice as head of tax at a mid-tier firm and is said to bring extensive experience advising mid to large corporate clients on a variety of matters and across a number of sectors.
With nearly 20 years’ experience in tax, Williams advises business owners and individuals on personal tax matters, spanning compliance and complex advisory work. His experience spans income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, succession planning, residence matters, HMRC investigations and land and buildings transaction tax. He joins MHA from accountancy firm CT.
