Housebuilder to add 169 more homes for families and first-time buyers at new village in East Lothian

“As a housebuilder, our aim is to provide quality new homes for everyone in locations where people want to live” – Jim Wilkinson

Avant Homes Scotland has submitted plans to deliver the second phase of its 343-home development at a new village and community being built in East Lothian.

The proposed £43.5 million, 169-home second phase at Blindwells, near Tranent, which will be called Althamer Gardens, follows on from the housebuilder’s current £48m, 174-home Althamer View development.

Subject to planning consent, the proposed new phase will comprise a mix of one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes and feature 18 of the company’s house types. This includes apartments, terrace, semi-detached and detached properties.

If given the green light from East Lothian Council, work on Althamer Gardens is anticipated to start on site in the spring, with the first residents expected to move into their new homes in late 2027.

Edinburgh-based Avant Homes Scotland acquired the 10.4-acre site from Hargreaves Land, which previously secured outline planning consent for 1,600 homes at Blindwells in 2017, for an undisclosed sum. Hargreaves Land’s masterplan for the site also includes new education facilities, a healthcare hub, local retail outlets and a range of other services to help establish a new community.

Avant Homes Scotland managing director Jim Wilkinson said: “As a housebuilder, our aim is to provide quality new homes for everyone in locations where people want to live. Our proposed plans for Althamer Gardens are evidence of this in action.

“Our current Althamer View development has proven hugely popular with buyers at Blindwells and we are pleased to submit plans for this second phase to support in meeting the strong local demand.

“The second phase will further provide a range of practically designed, energy-efficient homes which are suitable for first-time buyers, growing families and downsizers.”

He added: “We look forward to working with the planning officers at East Lothian Council on our plans to deliver more new homes at Blindwells and continue to grow the thriving community we have created.”

Avant Homes Scotland’s other live developments include Darach Fields in Robroyston and Thistle Meadows in Tranent.
