Historic riverside Highland hotel with 14 travel-inspired rooms opens after £6 million investment

The extensive renovation is said to have “carefully preserved the building’s architectural heritage”.

An Inverness hotel overlooking the city’s river has reopened following £6 million of investment.

Black Sheep Hotels Group is launching the Ambassador Hotel following a sweeping overhaul of the former Strathness House Hotel on Ardross Terrace, overlooking the River Ness.

Housed within two Victorian townhouses dating back to 1874, the newly restored hotel is the latest addition to the Black Sheep Hotels Group portfolio and features 14 individually designed rooms and suites.

The new-look hotel also houses Talk of the Town, a continental and Indian restaurant, and The Other Room, a library bar.

Bosses promise that the extensive renovation has “carefully preserved the building’s architectural heritage”, retaining key original features including the external façade and staircases, while “reimagining the interiors to offer a blend of antiques, period character and contemporary luxury”.

The hotel’s 14 themed rooms and signature suites are said to have been inspired by 19th-century travel and the Scottish landscape.

Black Sheep Hotels Group operates a collection of hotels, cabins, restaurants and hospitality venues across the Scottish Highlands, including The Whispering Pine Lodge, Black Sheep Hotels Cabins at Spean Bridge, The Cluanie Inn at Glenmoriston and Rokeby Manor at Invergarry. The group is owned by Mars Enterprises and Hospitality Pvt Ltd, founded in 1991 by siblings Sanjay and Rachna Narang.

Talk of the Town is named after a famous Bombay restaurant established in 1968 and brings a Scottish-Indian dining concept to the city. The restaurant is led by corporate executive chef Sinclair Pinto, who has worked in Michelin star restaurants.
