Green light for ‘milestone’ expansion of innovation park next to Glasgow Airport

“Securing planning approval is a major milestone for Tech Terrace and for the continued development of AMIDS” – Josh Thomas, Buccleuch Property

The green light has been given for a multi-million-pound expansion at the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) in Renfrewshire.

Detailed planning permission has been granted for the Tech Terrace development at AMIDS, which is located close to Glasgow Airport. The speculative 30,000-square foot development will provide flexible units with footprints starting from around 2,000 sq ft.

Tech Terrace is being supported by a Scottish Enterprise grant of £4.74 million and matched funding from AMIDS joint venture partners Renfrewshire Council and Buccleuch Property.

They are looking to address a “recognised lack of supply within the market”, enabling high-growth advanced manufacturing companies to scale.

The construction of Tech Terrace is targeted to begin this autumn.

Josh Thomas, development manager at Buccleuch Property, said: “Securing planning approval is a major milestone for Tech Terrace and for the continued development of AMIDS.

“Our commitment to delivering manufacturing units capable of accommodating a range of users will allow innovative businesses to cluster around the leading High Value Manufacturing Catapults – the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and CPI’s Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre – whether that’s on a speculative or design and build basis.”

Renfrewshire Council leader Iain Nicolson said: “This is an exciting step in the ongoing development of AMIDS. Tech Terrace will play a key role in helping businesses establish themselves within Renfrewshire and benefit from being part of a manufacturing cluster, with the opportunity to expand into larger, purpose-built facilities as they grow.

“AMIDS supports our objective to provide local people access to high-quality jobs and to establish Renfrewshire as a global leader in advanced manufacturing.”

The new development sits within the AMIDS and Glasgow Airport tax site, further supporting companies by offering “various fiscal incentives”.

AMIDS is Scotland’s home of advanced manufacturing and innovation and is seen as delivering a major boost to the country’s manufacturing and life science sectors. Tech Terrace aims to establish a “world-class, high-value manufacturing cluster” where “organisations can work together to pioneer breakthroughs and meet challenges of the future and drive economic growth”.
