EnerMech hits the road in South African valve market

Aberdeen-based engineer EnerMech has invested £250,000 to launch a “door-to-door” valves maintenance service in South Africa.

The group, which employs 2,400 people around the world, has equipped two mobile testing rigs capable of certifying and servicing valves within a 1,200-mile radius of Cape Town.

Under South African law, safety valves have to be recertified every one to three years and Stephen David, EnerMech’s valves general manager for Africa, said the new service was proving very popular among customers in the industrial services and energy sector.

He said: “Some clients prefer not to have their safety valves going off-site so we go to them. Our highly mobile response team prevents delays, improves process safety and we act as a ‘safety net’ for the client needing sourcing of new valves and spares.”

He added: “In addition to the mainstream heavy industries, we are working in sectors as diverse as brewing and pulp and paper, and I can see our wider offering, including recent introduction of industrial services in the region, being of widespread appeal with those varied businesses.”

EnerMech has more than 100 staff based in Africa, where its operations also span Angola, Ghana and Nigeria.
