Edinburgh PR agency founder takes chair at CIPR Scotland
“After three decades in this industry, I’ve learned that what endures through every technological shift and economic pressure is community” – Sarah Lee
The founder and managing director of Edinburgh-based PR and comms agency Hot Tin Roof has been appointed chair of CIPR Scotland.
Sarah Lee has served as vice chair for the past two years, during which CIPR Scotland membership grew by 9 per cent, professional accreditation increased by 44 per cent and event attendance more than doubled. Lee takes over from Stewart Argo following the organisation’s recent annual general meeting.
CIPR Scotland is one of 14 volunteer-led groups within the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ UK-wide network.

Lee brings more than 30 years of communications experience to the role, including founding Hot Tin Roof 23 years ago.
She said: “After three decades in this industry, I’ve learned that what endures through every technological shift and economic pressure is community. Real community where we genuinely support each other, share knowledge, and help each other succeed.
“Stewart has handed over an organisation in remarkably strong shape, and I'm committed to building on those foundations while ensuring every member, wherever they are in Scotland, feels this is their community.”
Her priorities for the organisation include launching Scotland’s new PR awards and expanding professional development across the country. Making professional development “accessible and affordable during challenging economic times” will be a particular focus.
Outgoing chairman Argo added: “Sarah has been instrumental in CIPR Scotland’s growth over the past two years. Her strategic vision, collaborative approach, and deep understanding of the challenges facing modern communicators make her the ideal person to lead us forward.”
Hot Tin Roof operates as a senior-level partnership combining Lee’s quarter-century of strategic communications expertise with public affairs and professional design capabilities. Founded in 2002, the agency works with organisations ranging from early-stage innovators to established industry leaders.
CIPR Scotland is one of 14 nations and regions groups within the Chartered Institute of Public Relations’ UK network. The volunteer-led group supports some 950 members across Scotland through professional development programmes, regional events and monthly online sessions. It operates under CIPR’s central governance structure while delivering “locally relevant” networking, professional development and early-career support.
