One Battle After Another took home the big prize at the 2026 Oscars, after going into the ceremony with a huge 13 nominations.
Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the action thriller won Best Picture over Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which was also among this year’s favourites and was up for a record-breaking 16 awards.

What is One Battle After Another about?
Loosely based on Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland, One Battle After Another follows an ex-rebel who is forced back into his former combative lifestyle when a corrupt military officer resurfaces and begins pursuing him after 16 years.
It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro, as well as Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor and Chase Infiniti, in her feature film debut.
The film’s synopsis reads: “Washed-up revolutionary Bob (DiCaprio) exists in a state of stoned paranoia, surviving off-grid with his spirited, self-reliant daughter, Willa (Infiniti). When his evil nemesis (Penn) resurfaces after 16 years and she goes missing, the former radical scrambles to find her, father and daughter both battling the consequences of his past.
