The Christmas television schedules have been confirmed for 2025, with the more old fashioned of us looking forward to circling our must-watches in the Radio Times.
The BBC has the likes of festive specials of Call The Midwife, Mrs Brown’s Boys, Strictly Come Dancing, Amandaland, Beyond Paradise and Death in Paradise.
Meanwhile on STV viewers can look forward to one-off festive episodes of The Chase, Bullseye, The 1% Club, Romesh Ranganathan's Parents Evening, and Loose Women.
And if that’s all too cheery there will doubtless be yuletide drama in the soaps - with Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Eastenders all having special episodes on Christmas Day.
Last year saw the finale of Gavin and Stacey watched by 12.3 million viewers - the biggest Christmas Day audience since 2008.
New Wallace and Gromit film Vengeance Most Fowl came second with 9.4 million viewers, followed by the King’s Speech with an audience of 5.04 million.
But even Gavin & Stacey’s viewing figures are dwarfed by the audiences of yesteryear, when streaming wasn’t available and telly was limited to just a handful of channels.
Here are the 17 most watched programmes on Christmas Day in history - figures that are unlikely to beaten any time soon.

17. It'll Be Alright On Christmas Night
Also earning a festive audience of 18 million and completing our list is 'It'll Be Alright on Christmas Night'. Back in the 1980s watching Denis Norden introducing a series of bloopers from the world of film and television was the funniest thing on the box. This Christmas version is only the second ITV show to make the list (the most watched episode of Coronation Street was viewed by 17.97 million people in 1987, so just misses out on a place). | Contributed
