Award-winning musical Hadestown to tour UK for first time - including three Scottish venues
The show will have its Scottish premiere in Glasgow
Award-winning Broadway musical Hadestown is to embark on its first ever UK tour next year - including three venues in Scotland.
The show, which won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2019 and is due to transfer to London’s West End from its run at the National Theatre, is to be performed in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Blending American songwriting traditions, from indie folk, to pop, blues, and New Orleans-inspired jazz, Hadestown has music, lyrics and book by acclaimed Tony and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and BBC Radio 2 Folk Award-winner Anaïs Mitchell who first created Hadestown as an indie theatre project.
His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen, Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre and Glasgow’s King’s Theatre are among 20 dates on the tour.
The Scottish performances will begin in Glasgow on 8 June 2027, followed by Edinburgh from 15 June and Aberdeen from 22 June.

Ms Mitchell said: “I’m thrilled that Hadestown will be touring across the UK and Ireland. Our West End casts have taught us that these songs sound right at home in every lilt and brogue…we are thrilled to bring this story and music to folks all over and see what new resonances will be found.”
Aberdeen Performing Arts chief executive, Sharon Burgess, said: “Hadestown is one of the biggest and most exciting West End and Broadway shows of recent years, and seeing this sensational show on the His Majesty’s Theatre stage will be very special.
“It’s message of community and hope, combined with an incredible musical score makes it a must-see, even for non-traditional musical fans.”
